About the Department
- Since an ancient period textile industry of Maharashtra has a rich heritage link. In our country after agriculture, Textile industry is the second largest industry in employment generation. As per the recommondentions of Tidke Committee, separate directorate with Name “Directorate of Handloom Powerloom and Cooperative Textiles” was established in 02.01.1971, for effective control on Powerloom and Handlooms and Cooperative Textiles in Maharashtra. Directorate of Handloom Powerloom and Cooperative Textiles was renamed as “Commissionerate of Textiles” wide Government Resolution of Cooperative Marketing and Textiles Department No. Misc-2018 /C.R.32 /Tex-2, Dt.24.04.2019
- Head Quarter of Commissionerate is located at Nagpur. To help Commissionerate there are 4 regional offices located at Nagpur, Solapur, Mumbai, and Sambhaji Nagar, which are headed by Regional Deputy Commissioner (Textiles). Regional Deputy Commissioner administers various schemes and functions run by the state to promote the development of Spinning mill/ Powerloom/ Handloom Sector.
- Additionally, Maharashtra State Handloom Cooperation plays an important role in the development of the Handloom Industry.

From 15.03.2024, under Textile Policy 2023-28, powerlooms, spinning mills and other textile industry units should register by clicking on the below mentioned link for new registration for electricity subsidy. And textile units who have already registered should immediately rectify the errors on the website to get additional electricity subsidy immediately.
